Full-Time Pretending to know what i’m doing, healthcare project coordinator on my spare time
Hi! As you’ve probably gathered, my name is Leonor. I’m 26 years old, and I’m from Lisbon, Portugal. Growing up, I wanted to be everything from a teacher to an actress, a singer, and even the lady at the supermarket checkout (because it looked fun when I was 8…). The list goes on, but by 18, I decided I was going to be a doctor. I graduated in 2022 with a Master’s in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, and now my parents can officially say they have a doctor in the family.
Along the way, I realized that impacting people’s health doesn’t have to happen only in a doctor’s office. Working on the operations and management of health initiatives, I feel like I can make a big difference in the lives of many people. While I still love medicine, my true passion is coordinating teams of professionals, all working toward one goal: improving someone else’s health.
What am i up to now?
Currently, I live in the beautiful town of Antigua, in Guatemala. I work as Country Director at a small clinic in Guatemala for the NGO Health & Help. Our mission is to provide free basic healthcare to underserved communities that lack access to healthcare services. I help make sure everything runs smoothly and that means I do many different things (from managing budgets, buying material, establishing partnerships to solving conflicts between our team of volunteers…). It’s been challenging but incredibly fulfilling, and I’m excited to continue learning and growing in this role.
Fun facts that in reality are personality traits…
- I love traveling – so much that I initially created this blog to talk about my traveling adventures.
- I was a Girl Guide for 17 years – and it played a big role on my development as a person. I swear we do way more than selling cookies.
- I believe that 98% of problems can be solved with an spreadsheet – if you haven’t solved your problems yet, you’re probably not using the right formulas.
